Microsoft Windows Server Client Access License (CALs)
Windows SERVER CAL IS A LICENSE THAT ALLOWS CUSTOMERS TO ACCESS WINDOWS SERVERS. CAL is used in conjunction with the Microsoft Windows Server operating system license to allow users and/or devices to access and use the server operating system’s services.
If your customers want to run Windows servers on their new HPE Gen10 server, they will get a Windows server operating system license to run Windows server software on a physical server, and they will need to obtain CELs for users or devices accessing the server.
This two-component license model provides a lower entry price and a way to pay for the capacity used: the more devices or users accessing the server software, the higher the license fee or price. As a result, the model provides affordable license prices for organizations of all sizes.
What are the different types of CAL?
HPE offers several different types of Windows SERVER CAL.
- User CAL allows a single user to access the Windows server from an unlimited number of devices
- Device CAL allows an unlimited number of users to access the Windows server from a single device
Are there any employees in your organization who need roaming from multiple devices to access the corporate network? In this case, the user CAL is the most economical and affordable.
Does the organization have multiple users on one device, such as shift workers using kiosk workstations? In this case, the device CAL is the most economical and gives maximum management significance.
We have to talk about the third type of CAL, Remote Desktop Services (RDS) CALs. RDS CALS is required to use the Remote Desktop Services feature on the Windows server. In addition to the RDS user or RDS device CAL, a regular user or device CAL is required.
